Open Positions:
(Click each position title to access the corresponding interest form).
Interest forms are accepted on a rolling basis and typically reviewed once a week. Applicants will usually hear back by the Friday or Saturday after their form has been reviewed. We tend to receive a large influx of forms at the beginning of the semester, so please allow a bit more time for us to reach out with a response. We do not read interest forms during school breaks. Keep writing samples to a 3-page maximum, please! If uploading multiple samples (e.g. for Photos or Graphics), please link to one Google Drive folder.
Mount Holyoke News accepts all who are interested. The Google forms linked below are just so we can get to know you, your skills, and what section you’d like to work with. All positions offer opportunities for training and we accept students regardless of experience level. Please note that members of MHN are not paid for their work — MHN is run by students.
NOTE: Mount Holyoke News will begin reviewing staff applications for the 2025-26 academic year in early September. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Writers:
Staff Writer
Staff writers are responsible for pitching stories to editors and writing three articles each month. In your submission, please indicate the section(s) you are interested in writing for. Typically, staff writers are initially accepted into one section and, once on staff, can move or expand to other sections.
NOW HIRING: All sections, especially Sports, Books, A&E and Opinion.
Contributing Writer
Contributing Writers write some articles for the paper, but are not considered formal members of MHN Staff and are not obligated to write every week. This is a great option if you do not have a lot of time to write or want to try out writing before officially committing to the organization.
We are also looking for an advice columnist!
Puzzle/Quiz/Horoscope writers
Puzzle/Quiz Writers are responsible for creating biweekly interactive content that will have a place on the Community page of the newspaper. Experience with puzzle or quiz making is preferred but not required. Puzzle/Quiz Writers will report to the Managing Editor of Content.
