Zainab Salbi, the 2016 Carol Hoffman Collins Global Scholar-in-Residence, spoke at Gamble Auditorium to dozens of Mount Holyoke students and members of the Pioneer Valley community. Her talk on Oct. 13 was called “Women, Islam and the Middle East,” and addressed issues of identity and culture that many Muslim women face.

The Mount Holyoke Climate Justice Coalition held a climate justice rally, “Climate Justice is Social Justice," on Oct. 14. The rally’s aim was to showcase climate justice’s relationship to all social justice issues on personal, community and global levels.

Mass. transgender discrimination law officially in effect this week

This past weekend saw a major increase in the rights of transgender individuals in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Massachusetts law that prohibits any discrimination against gender identity in public spaces was signed in July, and went into effect this Saturday. Massachusetts is the 18th state in the country to create such provisions for transgender people, according to the Berkshire Eagle.
