Second installment of ‘RACE and … Dance’ celebrates house dance 

On Friday, Sept. 24, Five College Dance and Mount Holyoke Division of Student Life, Office of Community and Belonging and the campus Cultural Centers hosted the second session of “RACE and … Dance,” a three-part dance workshop hosted on Zoom. The event was designed to allow the general public to learn about and appreciate African diasporic cultures “whose contributions to contemporary dance are often underexplored,” according to the event’s Embark page.

Dance department presents Fall Faculty Concert

The dance department presented the Fall Faculty Dance Concert Nov. 14-16 in the studio theater of Kendall Sports and Dance Complex. The performance featured works by Five College Lecturer in Dance Shakia Johnson, Visiting Artist in Dance Katie Martin and Assistant Professor of Dance Barbie Diewald.

The traveling American Ballet Theatre Studio Company performed to receptive audiences in the Kendall Studio Theater last Friday and Saturday. The 12 young dancers were met with gasps, murmurs and extended applause from the crowd in the small, dark space as they performed six stunning, diverse pieces.

Video and performance artist and Mount Holyoke College alumna Joan Jonas ’58 returned to campus last Thursday, Jan. 31 to direct and present a one-time-only reconfiguration of her groundbreaking works of performance art, Mirror Piece I and Mirror Piece II.
