Russian Club hosts annual poetry night, ‘Wild Honey’

Chances are that if you’ve spent any amount of time on the Mount Holyoke campus, you have probably encountered at least one of the many flyers that can be found urging students to “TAKE RUSSIAN: NOW IS THE TIME.” This past week, the department welcomed the Mount Holyoke community to the annual arts event “Wild Honey: An Evening of Russian Poetry.” The event is named after the play by Anton Chekhov and hosted by the Mount Holyoke Russian Club.

In their Feb. 17 show, “An Evening with Andrea Gibson: Right Now I Love You Forever,” poet Andrea Gibson addressed developing self-love, falling in love, falling out of love, love in times of tragedy and the many other ways love takes shape, both in their own life and in the queer community.

Sarah Kay and Andrea Gibson, with surprise guest Mary Lambert, performed spoken word for a packed theater at the Academy of Music in Northampton on Wednesday. The performance was part of a week-long tour that began in Ithaca, New York and ends in Providence, Rhode Island.
