Mount Holyoke Professor of Art and Chair of Studio Art Rie Hachiyanagi has been scheduled for a dangerousness hearing on Feb. 28.

A dangerousness hearing, according to the Massachusetts Legislature, is requested by the Commonwealth in cases of use, attempted use or threat of physical force and asks a judge to hold a defendant without bail for up to 120 days.

Since her alleged assault of a fellow Mount Holyoke professor in December of 2019, Hachiyanagi has been held without bail in the Franklin County House of Correction. Hachiyanagi’s hearing, originally scheduled for Feb. 4, has been pushed back and reclassified by the Massachusetts Commonwealth.

Hachiyanagi is charged with multiple counts, including attempted murder, to which she has pled not guilty
