The Mount Holyoke Track and Field team competed in two invitationals last weekend. On Feb. 14, the team appeared at the Boston University (BU) David Hemery Invitational and on Feb. 15 they participated in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Gordon Kelly Invitational. At both invitationals, Mount Holyoke Track and Field saw career-bests and qualifying times in the Division III New England Championships.

In the women’s 5k event, Hannah Rieders ’22 beat her own indoor track and field school record with a time of 17:18.75. Madeline Rieders ’22 also posted a career-best time, just milliseconds behind Rieders’. Their performances put them in the top 15 in Division III in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Simone Jacob ’21 and Devan Ravino ’23 ran personal-best times in the 800 meter race. Jacob earned Mount Holyoke Track and Field’s number two all-time result with a time of 2:20.21.

Another career-best came from Isabelle Wohlin ’21 in the 200-meter dash. Wohlin produced a number five all-time mark of 26.76 seconds.

Sydney Nash ’22 ran a number six all-time result and career-best time of 3:09.74 in the 1000-meter event.

Meanwhile, in the women’s 3k run, Lauren Selkin ’23 ran a season-best with a time of 10:52.29. Selkin’s time made for the number seven all-time in the College’s track and field program history.

The Rieders’, Nash’s and Jacob’s times all qualify for the upcoming Division III New England Championship.

“BU’s facility and the level of competition at their invitationals are top in the country,” Head Track and Field Coach Christopher Kibler said. “Our student-athletes really took advantage of the opportunity, which is why seven stepped onto the track and seven ran away with indoor track personal bests.”

The Lyons’ final stop of the weekend was to the Gordon Kelly Invitational hosted by MIT on Saturday, Feb. 16.

In the 600 meter dash, Lucy Sternberg ’23 ran a career-best and the tenth all-time result for Mount Holyoke, with a time of 8.75 seconds. Caitlin Lynch ’20 finished in a personal-best three milliseconds behind Sternberg.

“The focus this weekend was to have fun and compete,” Kibler said. “The student-athletes embodied those focal points, and the performances followed. The entire team can be proud of their effort and for bringing a competitive mindset into each event for the sake of the name on their singlet.”
