Basketball opens season against Lasell

The Mount Holyoke basketball team opened their 2019-2020 season at home on Saturday Nov. 9, 2019. The Lyons lost to Lasell College 67-34.

The Lyons had a total of 45 rebounds compared to Lasell’s 44 rebounds. Annika Brooks ’21 came up with a team-best 17 points and 11 rebounds. Olive Oswald ’21 racked up two points and one rebound.

Ellie Hayward ’23 recorded nine rebounds and four points in her first collegiate game.

“I am very excited about the season ahead. We are already so close and there is so much talent and potential already showing,” Hayward said. “I can’t wait to play and win some great games,” said Hayward.

Katlyn Grover ’20 scored 11 points with four rebounds and two steals.

“We’ve been in rebuilding years for quite a while and I think we’ll be able to see tangible growth this year and I’m really excited about that,” Grover said.

The Lyons hosted Worcester State University in non-conference play on Tuesday, Nov. 12 and lost 65-22. Mount Holyoke Basketball will head to the Bard College Tip-Off Classic to compete against Bay Path University on Saturday, Nov. 16 and against Bard College on Sunday, Nov. 17.
