Squash finishes regular season with 4-14 win-loss record

The Mount Holyoke squash team had a competition-packed weekend as they faced off against Wellesley College, Vassar College, Dickinson College and Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16.

To start the weekend, the Lyons traveled to Vassar College to compete against the host and Wellesley College at Kenyon Hall.

Kuzivakwashe Madungwe ’21 returned to the competition courts for the first time since Jan. 10, but fell in her match.

“It was great to be back on the court playing and competing with my teammates,” Madungwe said. “[I] was a bit nervous to play because I had just started playing the week leading to Saturday’s matches.”

It was a strong start for the squash team, as Mount Holyoke defeated Wellesley College with an end result of 8-1.

Mihiliya Methsarani ’22 shut out their opponent 11-3, 11-5, 11-4 and Emma Robson ’21 triumphed 11-2, 11-5, 11-1. Elba Barra Montgomery ’23 sealed the team’s victory with a 11-6, 11-6, 11-4 win.

Mount Holyoke Squash then defeated host Vassar College, with a close 5-4 final score.

On Sunday, the Lyons finished off their regular season against Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall. They fell to both teams, ending their season with a 4-14 record.

“I am looking forward to ending the season with the Team Championships at Yale this weekend,” Madungwe said. “I am confident that my teammates and I will do all that we can to play good games.”
