The Mount Holyoke College track and field team had a competition-packed weekend as eight of the Lyons traveled to Middlebury College to take on the 2020 Division III New England Championships. The Lyons finished the weekend placing 21 out of 26 teams, with seven points.

Madeline Rieders ’22 and Hannah Rieders ’22 competed first for the Lyons on Friday, Feb. 28 in the women’s 5000-meter run. They recorded fifth and sixth overall, which awarded them All New England Honors.

On Saturday, Feb. 29, Isabelle Wohlin ’21 finished 23 in 9.82 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary race.

“I focused on the fact that I have run this race so many times before and that my body knows what to do when it comes to hurdling,” Wohlin said. “I reminded myself that my amazing teammates and coaches were supporting me, and I wanted to represent MHC well.”

In the mile event, Simone Jacob ’21 placed 15th overall with a time of 5:18.46. Jacob competed in the 1000-meter event placing 15 with a time of 3:07.94. Sydney Nash ’22 finished 23 in the race in 3:12.01.

“We saw a lot of growth this indoor season, but we are always looking for areas to improve, especially in the buildup to the [New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)] Championship in April,” Nash said.

In the high jump, Caitlin Lynch ’20 placed 14, clearing 1.55 meters.

The Lyons then raced in the 4x800 relay. The team consisted of Nash, Jacob, Emma Raney ’20 and Devan Ravino ’23. They placed tenth with a time of 10:11.81.

The Lyons will return to competition at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet on Saturday, March 7.

The championships conclude the Lyons’ indoor season, and the team will move forward into their outdoor spring season.

“I am looking forward to taking away the positives from this indoor season and applying them to the spring season,” Nash said. “The spring is a great time to showcase all of the work that we have put in all year, and I am so excited to see what our team can do.”
