The Mount Holyoke College Swimming and Diving team continued their season at the 2022 New England Women's and Men’s Athletic Conference Championship. The four day meet, which was hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, opened on Feb. 17 and concluded on Feb. 20.

Hannah Heierhoff ’25 discussed the energy going into the meet. “I think we were all very excited for NEWMACs because we knew we had worked hard and wanted to prove that to our coaches, [our] team and ourselves,” Heierhoff said.

Eliza Williams ‘24 swimming the breaststroke leg of her individual medley relay

The meet began with the 800-yard freestyle relay. With a time of 8:18.16, the team of Heierhoff, Adrienne Corr ’22, Evelyn Bushway ’24 and Eliza Williams ’24 placed 9th overall.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Megan Schneider ’25, Caitlyn Richmond ’22, Adji Diouf ’24 and Eliza Williams ’24 placed 9th with a time of 1:42.41. The 400-yard medley relay team of Anais Magner ’23, Bushway, Heierhoff and Schneider placed 9th with a time of 4:13.43.

Williams placed 25th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.10 and Bushway finished in a time of 5:27.78 and placed 30th. Additionally, Williams and Bushway placed 15th and 17th respectively in the 400-yard individual medley. In the 200-yard butterfly, Heierhoff finished in 2:16.81, taking 17th place. The 1650-yard freestyle finals had Lily Nemivrosky ’24 finishing in 20th in 19:19.19 minutes, while Williams touched ahead for 12th place in 18:29.32 minutes.

Kathryn Murphy ’22, Sophie Simon ’25 and Lilje Stratton ’25 competed in the one-meter dive. Murphy placed 3rd overall with a score of 421.55 in the finals. Simon placed 5th, scoring 368.10, while Stratton scored 338.30 to place 10th.

Murphy rounded out the weekend by winning the three-meter dive. With a final score of 491.55, she shattered the Mount Holyoke program record for 11 dives on the three-meter board. Simon and Stratton placed 4th and 7th respectively, with scores of 433.80 and 363.70.

The Lyons placed 8th overall in the women’s championship, beating out Clark University and Smith College.

Murphy and Simon will compete this weekend in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Diving Regionals, hosted by Smith College.
