Basketball falls to Worcester State in season opener

On Nov. 15, MHC basketball faced the Worcester State Lancers for their first game of the 2016-2017 season. With a home gym advantage, the Lancers saw a 63-24 victory.

Leading MHC in points was Xajaah Williams-Flores ’17 with a total of nine. She also saw five rebounds, two blocks and an assist. Leah Hodges ’19 had a team high of seven rebounds and two assists. She finished the game with three steals and a total of four points. Genesis DiCarlo ’19 also saw three steals and four points total. 

The Lyons kept Worcester State’s lead minimal for the better half of the first quarter, as the Lancers were only up by seven at the close of the first 10 minutes. The half concluded with a 14 point difference between the teams, with the Lancers leading 28-14. 

Throughout the game, MHC made 75 percent of their free throws, compared to the 50 percent made by Worcester State. The Lyons scored another 10 points in the second half, while the Lancers finished with another 35 points. 

The Lyons continue their season tonight at 5:30 p.m. when they host Green Mountain College in their home opener.
