Lacrosse honors Seniors in game versus Wellesley

On Saturday, Mount Holyoke Lacrosse kept a packed crowd on its feet during a competitive game against NEWMAC rival Wellesley College. A second half comeback effort by the Lyons tied the game with 8:56 left to play. The match featured goals from five different Mount Holyoke players and a solid performance from starting keeper Isa Rodriguez ’17. The Lyons came out on top in most aspects of the game, as they held a 34-22 shot advantage and bested Wellesley 29-26 in ground ball recoveries. Mount Holyoke also saw a 10-8 edge in draw controls, featuring five different players. At the end of the competition, Wellesley bested Mount Holyoke, 9-8.

Basketball bested by Wheaton

Mount Holyoke College Basketball saw New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference action this past Saturday, facing Massachusetts rival Wheaton College in front of an energetic crowd at Mount Holyoke's home gymnasium. After numerous lead changes, Wheaton edged out MHC and the game concluded with a final score of 70-34. 

Riding competes in tournament of champions

Mount Holyoke Equestrian traveled to Emory, Va., where they competed in their final leg of the 2016-2017 Tournament of Champions series at the Winter II Classic. The show began with intermediate flat, where Mika McKinney '18 saw a nice ride for a sixth place finish. Bridget Finnerty '17 followed with a beautiful ride in open over fences where she claimed the first place spot in an incredibly competitive field. In intermediate over fences, Taryn Isenburg '18 completed a nice ride for a seventh place finish and returned to the ring to compete in a section of the High Collegiate Medal. While she rode well, she did not make the callback. 

Riding secures fourth consecutive victory at home show

This past Saturday, the MHC Equestrian Team hosted eight other college equestrian teams for their first home Intercollegiate Horse Show Association show of the competitive season. MHC finished the day first out of the nine competing teams, with a total score of 45, only four points shy of perfection. 

Soccer endures tough 3-2 overtime loss to Smith College

On a bitterly cold Tuesday afternoon, Mount Holyoke Soccer fought in overtime against local conference rival Smith College. The game took place at the Pioneers’ home field and marked Mount Holyoke’s penultimate game of the regular season. With the 3-2 loss, Mount Holyoke fell to 8-9-0 overall and 2-7-0 in the NEWMAC.

Riding bests the competition at Smith College IHSA Show

In a competitive field of nine teams, the Mount Holyoke Equestrian team saw a first overall finish at the Intercollegiate Horse Show this past Saturday. The equestrian team completed the day with a total score of 40, edging out local rival and host Smith College by only one point. At the second show of the competitive season, the team had seven riders take first place in their respective disciplines and 18 place in the top three.
